How Long to Run a FurMark Stress Test
There is no single correct duration. Begin with a short supervised run, confirm that temperature levels off, and extend the test only when the system remains within the GPU manufacturer’s limits.
Quick Check
A few minutes can reveal a disconnected fan, an immediate driver crash or a fast temperature spike. This is a screening test, not proof of long-term stability.
Cooling Check
Continue until temperature and fan speed reach a steady range. The time varies with the cooler, case airflow and room temperature. Stop if the graph keeps climbing without settling.
Stability Check
A longer run can uncover heat-soak and marginal overclock problems, but FurMark alone cannot certify a system. Follow it with representative games, rendering or compute workloads.
Stop Conditions
Stop immediately for artifacts, freezes, black screens, driver timeouts, abnormal noise, smell, or any sensor reading beyond the hardware specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is ten minutes enough?
It can be enough for an initial temperature and cooling check, but it does not guarantee stability in every workload.
Should FurMark run overnight?
No unattended stress test is recommended. Supervision lets you respond to temperature, fan or stability problems.
Why does temperature keep rising?
The case and cooler may still be heat-soaking, airflow may be restricted, or cooling capacity may be insufficient.
